Winners and losers from the great Twitter meltdown

Twitter experienced an outage on Saturday, July 1, 2023, that affected users around the world. The outage began around 8:00 AM ET and lasted for several hours, with some users reporting that they were unable to access the site or app until as late as 6:00 PM ET.

During the outage, users who tried to access Twitter were met with error messages, such as “Rate limit exceeded” or “Cannot retrieve tweets.” Some users also reported that they were unable to log in or send tweets.

With the complete meltdown of Twitter this past weekend, let’s take a look at the winners and losers.

Losers

Twitter – this is obvious and doesn’t need an explanation. They’re nearing the end…

Bluesky – completely crumbled under the pressure of existing users coming onto the platform and about 18k new ones. Everything broke. They had to limit what users could do on the platform. An absolute disaster for them.

Winners

Post – handled the influx of Twitter refugees with ease and the platform was a flurry of new activity and excitement. Some thought Post had lost momentum, but they got it all back this weekend.

Meta – couldn’t have asked for a better weekend as the company will launch their Twitter clone on July 6th. With billions of users – they’re likely to cause real damage to Twitter.

What do you all think? Did I get this list right?
